I have eaten at the Bar-B-Q-King approximately 5 or 6 times in the last year. I was first introduced to this location when I was doing research on restaurants visited by Food Network. The restaurant was featured on Diners, Drives, and Dives. The dish featured on the show was the BBQ chicken.
I decided to order the 1/4 BBQ chicken dinner plate. I decided to order french fries as a side dish. The dish also comes with coleslaw (I do not like coleslaw, so I decided to get extra fries instead), and piece of bread.
The restaurant is an old school set-up. The drive through still features a call in system from the 50's. The neighborhood the restaurant is located in is kinda sketchy. However, when you bite into that first piece of crunchy chicken with a twang of vinger, it will all be worth it. The chicken is especially crunchy and the sauce is delicious. The fries aren't really anything to write home about ( I prefer shoe-string fries), but with two piece of chicken I was so full it did not even matter.
After my first experience I have been back about 5 times since January. The only problem I have with Bar-B-Q King is they only accept cash. Charlotte is the second largest bank system in the USA. However, I bank with a smaller bank and finding a teller near Wilkinson Blvd has become a challenge. So I can only eat there when I have cash. They do have a ATM machine located inside. However, I do not want to pay the additional $3.00 for a surcharge for using the ATM machine for $8.00 piece of chicken.
If you have a $20.00 bill and a hungry appetite for Southern style BBQ this is definitely the place for you. I will definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys a vinger based BBQ sauce.
