Yesterday my husband and I went to Sullivan's to celebrate my birthday. He decided to take me there to try someplace we haven't been. We are regular "steakhouse " eaters at various known venues. What I noticed immediately is that the ambiance was wonderful and clearly it is a well visited place by many. I liked that we were seated in the back, a very private area where you could have a conversation. The service was impeccable and it was clear our waiter knew what he was talking about regarding wine pairing and preparation of a steak. My issue was the food. I was truly disappointed on many levels. We moved to Charlotte from PA and we've noticed it is very difficult to get a Pittsburgh style medium rare steak. My husband had to send his steak back for another try. All of my food was way too salty. Whom ever ran the kitchen this evening was heavy handed with the salt to the point that I did not enjoy my dinner. My shrimp/lobster bisque, too much salt. The shaved Brussel sprouts. Too salty, The Chil encrusted rib eye, way too salty. What I enjoyed about my dinner were the mushrooms, just right and the Sullivan's reserve Cabernet. Oh the key lime pie was tastey. The over abundance of salt not only took away the natural flavors of the food( that you missed) but would give a healthy person high blood pressure. One of the evening managers did come to the table and was sincere in his disappointment. We most likely because of this experience will not return to Sullivan's because there are other steakhouses that have consistent outcomes.
