  • I was cranky on a Saturday morning and the only thing to pull me out of the funk was the promise of good Chinese food. This place has been bookmarked for THREE YEARS and I finally pulled the trigger because - noodles. We ordered the following: 1. Pan fried dumplings 2. Assorted cold meats 3. Oxtail noodle soup 4. Minced pork noodles Quick tip - they have several different kinds of noodles here, but we didn't specify which type we wanted to they just defaulted with the skinny ramen-looking kind - such a shame and should be addressed with the order! Certain dishes would definitely taste better with thicker noodles. The appetizers were awesome. Dumplings were huge and meaty and fried to perfection. The assorted meats were well marinated. Make sure you dip it in vinegar and chili oil. YUMMM. The noodles were unfortunately such a letdown. They had great texture and I love that they made them in house. The flavors, however..... ehhhhhhh.... sad. If you're Chinese or Korean you know that zha jiang mian is one of the ultimate comfort foods. Every household has a different way of making them but it's usually minced pork with either yellow or black soy bean paste as a base and garnished with cucumbers and sooooometimes cilantro (if you're adventurous). My family has always added scrambled eggs in the sauce (highly recommended). I took a bite of the minced pork noodles here and tasted NOTHING. And for some reason Magic Noodle House garnishes this dish with iceberg lettuce...? Ick! Why put that on anything? Oxtail soup wasn't much better. The broth was okay - but the oxtail was definitely not stewed long enough. The soup had the teeniest pieces of oxtail and the meat was so rough. Pass on this. I usually judge a Chinese restaurant by how it compares to my mother's cooking. This I couldn't even compare to mine. Three stars because the service and appetizers were good, and the noodles had great consistency. I wouldn't be back, though.
