  • After reading all the terrible reviews for Spirit I was mentally preparing myself for the worst. The bad reviews that stood out to me were people said their flight was delayed, beverages were expensive and the baggage fees. I booked with Spirit because there was a $156 difference between them and Southwest and was willing to take the risk and see for myself. Mind you, the flights are cheap so you can't expect much. Overall, I was very pleased with spirit and feel as though those who write the majority of these poor reviews have way too high of expectations being as how low it costs to fly with Spirit. As far as the baggage fees, I'm not sure why people are complaining and seem so surprised by it. It states right on the website that you have to pay for a carry on. Why such the shock? You clearly didn't read the details. Not that I agree with having to pay for a bag, but my expense was still $156 cheaper than Southwest. Word of advice, be prepared and know what your bringing so you aren't having to pay extra when arriving to the flight. Also, the seats are tight so I wouldn't recommend using Spirit for a lengthy flight. You are able to choose your seat in advance which I loved, I recommend buying an aisle seat if you are concerned with room or feel cramped. I flew from San Diego to Vegas and my flight left right on time and arrived early. I would assume that people should understand that with any airline there's room for delays. I made sure I was flying on days and times that I wouldn't have a need to be somewhere at any certain time because I had read that they tend to run behind. It's safe to say that all airlines have delays and when considering the price, there's not much room to complain with how much many you're saving. As far as the beverages go, anything related to the airport is expensive. Again, with how cheap the flights are do you really expect to get a free beverage? A coke is $4 on the plane as it is at the magazine shops. I saved over $100 by flying with them, I don't mind spending $4 for a drink. Overall, if you're looking to save some money and don't have high expectations considering the price your paying, this is the airline to try. I was very pleased with Spirit and plan on flying with them again.
