I am a huge fan of Communist's Daughter. It's one of those hole in the wall places with cool people, good prices and a cozy atmosphere. This is usually where I end my evening, due to its close proximity to the Dundas streetcar.
You won't find much in the way of frills here, or an extensive food menu. What you will find is friendly bartenders that are happy to recommend a drink if you're not sure what you'd like. They also have chips which I think every bar should have (come on, who doesn't like chips and a beer).
In terms of the venue, it's quite small and fills up quickly, but there are usually a few spare stools around that you can grab if you're not picky. They rotate the taps quite often so there's always something new to try, but my usual is a Beaus Lugtread - you can't go wrong and it's always fresh. I've never tried the food, but they have pizzas, sandwiches and other simple dishes.
If you haven't been, go - you won't regret it!
