  • For the holidays my husband & I decided to take in a show The Hip Hop Nutcracker which was performed at this theater. We've been to other theaters and quite often it's the Ovens that we are visiting. This was our first time seeing a show here. There's parking garages close to the theater with price range from $5-6. The theater as described it small but this makes for great seats. The seat in the orchestra area is set up in graduating levels so the seat is slightly lower in front on you. One would think this is common sense but you know what they say "common sense isn't very common." This is not the set up at the Ovens. It's not pleasant when someone with big hair sits in front of you. These people saw their seat when they bought their tickets but I guess think the show is only for them to see. I find that the Ovens has an ethnic trend in terms of what's presented there. With that being said on to the show. Keep in mind that my husband had no idea what was to come. I believe he thought someone would be belting out some tunes. This contributed to my entertainment. We missed the first 5-10 minutes of the show due to traffic accident on the way but walked in to find the theater jumping to a narrative through the advancement of hip hop. The Sugarhill band's tune was jamming and the place was jumping. The crowd was diverse but all relating as we were brought down memory lane. Then the Nutcracker started with a violinist that was truly gifted in his craft. A non speaking presentation that was totally relatable and beautifully performed with dance, acrobats and ingenuity of style. The intermission was the audience having their own dancing in the aisles by young and old. What a great atmosphere this was. This was nothing short of superb and I delighted in my husband's voiced impression of how good the show was. We relived our favorite parts and he said all this despite no signing. I'd pay again to see this show in a heartbeat. I can't say enough about this experience except if you have the opportunity to see this show practice up those old moves, grab your dancing shoes, and enjoy the show.
