| - I posted a negative review that was removed (rightfully so, I did get a little nasty -- but you're a parent, tell me its easy to hold back when it's about your son or daughter). I can't tell you the stuff that would get your blood boiling, so I'll stick to the less meaty details. Parent to parent, you just have to trust that I'm looking out for you. You'll think everything is OK until you have an issue. Then, their greed and nastiness comes forth. I regret keeping my son here as long as we did. He's MUCH happier (and healthier) where he is now.
I hope my review is enough to show you Whiz Kidz doesn't deserve your "business". It feels dirty to say your child is "business", but that's how we were treated here and how their policies reflect their priorities. If I could tell you things I can't, this review would be over with already.
Let's get this out of the way. The teachers here are mostly great (really, there's just one we don't like) and the school has a decent curriculum, events that'll make your heart all warm and fuzzy and you'll wonder why you didn't get a place like this when you were a kid. If this place was under different management / ownership, and they didn't retaliate like they did, my review would be different, but I've already said too much.
It's not the teachers or the petting zoo events that'll make you leave. We enjoyed many aspects of this place. However, just because Phillip Morris "donates" millions to cancer research, doesn't make them a good company despite also manufacturing the very thing that causes those cancers. That was a radical example and I'm not trying to compare Whiz Kidz to Marlboro, but the owner and management isn't as bubbly as other reviewers so conveniently point out (legit, some are suspiciously name dropping). I wish I could say more, but let's stick to the policies.
Repairs never happened in a timely manner. The school asks for free stuff to auction off to pay for upgrades -- let's be clear, this isn't some non-profit you're helping out. The tuition here isn't cheap, what are you paying for if they constantly want more money? They want YOU to buy books for the school.
They have more holidays and days off than most businesses and ALL the other day cares we looked at. They close early for "teacher training", so be ready for that, we weren't informed of that. We also thought it was only once... not the case. They are quick to send kids home for fevers, even though they add a degree to their "inaccurate thermometer" (their words). When they have enough kids gone to combine classrooms, they send teachers home (without pay) and combine. How is that OK with infants? They tell you to ease the child into day care, but if their aren't enough kids and they can send staff home, it's OK for new faces, new rooms and new students out of no where! Meanwhile, you still get charged the full rate. We burned through all our sick days and many of our vacation days because of their polices. Paid them full tuition every week though. Again, NOT the same policy at other places.
Go to other schools. They will most likely be a few bucks more per week, but take a good look at their policies and "events". On paper, other schools appear to be more expensive, but when "life" happens, they are cheaper overall.
We wanted the best for our son, but chose Whiz Kidz because Plan A wasn't available at the time. We're currently at Plan C and our goal is to get our son into Plan A. Whiz Kidz was ironically Plan D... for desperate at the time and disappointed in the end.
Whiz Kidz ownership treats our son like a commodity and our situation like it's "just business". I expected more, we didn't get it, we got it now that he's no longer here. This place was a compromise, thank goodness we're done with them.
Be wary of the overly positive and informative reviews that sound like marketing. There are connections there that aren't as unbiased as Yelp is supposed to be.
Again, but in general the school is OK, but it's certainly not the best (in this price point), and the owner is less concerned about your concerns and more about the money. There are much worse places than this, but there are also better. If you can, I would try to get into other places in the area.
