| - Finally got the chance to bring my parents here this past week after raving about it for more than a year. I inherited my dad's affinity for all things old and obscure, coin-operated player pianos and massive pipe organs among them. It was such a treat to see the look on his face while Lew Williams rocked the Mighty Wurlitzer.
We arrived to find a line going out the door (mostly senior citizens), but decided to tough it out. While waiting I ran into the main dining room, plucked one of the request cards, quickly wrote out "The Raiders of the Lost Ark theme song" before dropping it in the box and returning to our party.
I swear my dad nearly cried tears of pride and joy a few times, smiling broadly as we ate our amazingly savory large Combination (pepperoni, ham, bacon, sausage, beef, mushroom, olives, green pepper, onion) pizzas as we watched/listened to Lew playing.
It took a couple sets before Lew got to my request, but he played it at the very beginning of one before leading into a "Star Wars" medley, followed by the 1960s theme song to the "Star Trek." Indy has just always been near and dear to my family.
Someone recorded a previous performance (done by Charlie) and posted it on YouTube: http://youtu.be/Kh6HwkK2G7g
I do warn you, though, people can be extremely pushy when it comes to getting a table (since it's cafeteria-like seating) and sometimes they don't really care about the entertainment or common courtesy, either talking loudly over the music or standing in front of you while you're trying to watch.
Don't get down about it, though. Chances are they'll leave right after a set and won't sit through the short break. In the mean time, enjoy the music!
