Good Works was in the "Good Mechanic Network", so I approached them in June 2009 to fix a few known problems:
1) tranny fluid on the ground, regularly, and too much!
2) Radiator leak
3) A/C failing to stay charged, i.e., cold, longer than 10 days.
4) slight, intermittent engine knock
5) fluids dirty
To date, invested: $1870
Vehicle value: $4000
1) solved the tranny/transfer case leak, claimed to check out 4WD shifting smoothness, and said it all checked out OK -- $220.
2) R&R radiator, hoses, flushed fluid...9-months still going strong :)
3) Could not find freon leak, filled back up w/ Dye, still no find. Hmmm, returned 13 days later (Blowing warm again) -- surprisingly finds the Compressor leaks -- R&R compressor, accumulator for $750...30 days later, blowing warm :(
Upon further inspection, oh wait, the evap core is leaking, new quote is $1000.
Ouch. Hard to tell whether it's poor troubleshooting or worn out Jeep. But I am confused about why they could not see the (now obvious) evaporative core leak. [minus 2 stars] Still not sure whether to return or try out "Gene's" (see Yelp).
4) Using BG-MOA 110 here and there to remove sludge (+$30)
5) Brake flush for $100 -- reasonable for a messy job.
I'm rating them with 3-stars for now as I am skeptical that the service/parts were worth the $1800+.
I plan to continue w/ Good Works Auto service thru the first year, probably extending thru two years. They might earn back their stars; in the meantime, promise to keep Yelp updated.
