| - This little piggy went to MRKT; although, this little piggy maybe should've just stayed home and eaten whatever was in the fridge.
MRKT falls FLAT. The ambiance, the contemporary decor, yes, it's all appealing, but look beyond that and you'll find sub par cuisine.
Dinner started off with a bread basket consisting of two pretzel breads and some mundane bread rolls, served warm.
For my entree, I ordered the scallops which were tender; however, they didn't taste fresh. For sides, my boyfriend and I shared orders of the mushrooms and grilled asparagus. The asparagus was fine, but overall the mushrooms were probably the best item I had that evening.
We ordered desserts, which took 20 minutes to arrive. Our waiter told us that the pastry chef was out sick, and that the kitchen was backed up with orders. OK, well I call BS. If there wasn't a pastry chef available that night, then how come we still received our orders? What we received were out-of-the-box desserts. My chocolate tart was flavorless and didn't taste like chocolate, but caramel. In addition, I ordered a side of vanilla ice cream, which had the distinct flavor of Hershey's "chocolate" syrup drizzled on top -- um, wtf? I wasn't expecting liquid crap all over my ice cream. Furthermore, my boyfriend's strawberry cheesecake was partially frozen.
It's amazing how this restaurant has remained open for this long, considering the mediocre food. MRKT has to step their game up if they want to compete with other local steakhouses.
