  • Th tech, Ryan, arrived on time and was very personable and knowledgeable. Since the home we purchased in Vegas was built in '94 and I had previously dealt with Precision Garage Door at our home in Florida I pretty much knew what was going to be the recommendations for this door. Ryan offered to replace the worn gear in the existing opener, however, when comparing the cost of that replacement with the cost of new opener and rail (and switching from a chain drive to a belt) I decided to go with the replacement of the unit. I also opted for the full overhaul of the door essentially replacing all working parts. The total cost of the replacement was $1,300 which is a little on the high side when comparing the same project on our door in FL and using Precision and in FL I was given powder coated springs which I was told would cost more on the Vegas door. A garage door in FL is much heavier that a door in FL due to hurricane standards so I would have thought this project should have come in at around the same price as the FL project ($1,000) or slightly less. The outside key pad was an additional cost and it was included from Precision and we received 2 openers from Precision whereas the second opener was an additional charge from A1. A couple other issues I have with all garage door companies is that they charge you just for showing up. Now that charge is "waived" when you have service done so I did not get charged. The problem is that it is not disclosed when you set the appointment so be prepared if you are trying to get estimates that it will cost you $50 or so for the inspection. I know other contractors do the same thing but being a business person too I don't charge people to evaluate their needs. It's my cost of doing business. Additionally, A1 charges a fuel charge of $12.95 which is kind of silly in my estimation. I just spent $1,300 and you want me to cover overhead with an additional $13 charge. C'mon. I did get a $50 discount on the project (in the interest of full disclosure) but I do think this company may be a little on the high side in their pricing. I can't emphasize enough that Ryan did an excellent job, thoroughly explained everything (including options) and was finished with the entire project in a couple hours. Thus far (and its only been a day) the door works great. My 4 star rating (rather than 5) is based solely on the fact that they MAY be a little pricey, there needs to be a little extra disclosure about the trip charge for an inspection when setting the appointment and that "fuel surcharge" is just plain dumb.
