| - Truely the scene of the partying boomer crowd. The bf and I were the youngest patrons by decades. The interior is very dated and could use a refresh. The atmosphere is lively, sort of like a family reunion (you know the kind where all the kids are "too busy to come").
The food was simple. Boiled vegetables and potatoes (baked, mashed or fries) are the standard sides. The main seasoning I could taste was...not much which is very traditionally "English". As a 1/4 Brit, I feel am allowed to make such puns ;)
The shepperd's pie is very good. Still simple. If you're looking for more seasoning the meatloaf will deliver. Since the Coach & Four specializes in traditional dishes, don't expect to be surprised by anything in the menu. Everything is pretty standard of an english pub, including the interior design. The one exception is the Irish Nachos which come with thinly sliced and fried potatoes instead of tortilla chips. Unfortunately, the chips were a bit hard for my liking. They could have used a more creamy cheese sauce to loosen them up a bit. The irish nachos come with melted cheese, tomatoes and iceberg lettuce. Mild salsa, sour cream and chili accompany it on the side. Great idea, but the execution could be more refined.
When the BF and I first arrived, everyone was sitting down, but there was one group of people just standing and talking. We thought they were about to leave, but the stood around joking about riding dinosaurs (I assume), getting served drinks for over an hour while we were there. So I guess this is what a bar is like if your patrons are over 50. Not exactly hopping, but my parents would enjoy the scene.
