| - The first time my husband and I stumbled upon set, it was a night of bar hoping roaming Toronto streets. We walked by as the 90s throwback jams was catching our ear. Now listen my favorite genre of music is 80s, 90s and early 00s. So I knew we had to go in. The music was bumping so loud from outside you could dance outside on the sidewalk.
So we walked up to the entrance, bouncer was really cool even though he did tell my husband he couldn't wear his hat inside (my husband loves his hats). They were so cool they even said they would watch his hat for him while we went up. We told them we were going to be in and out anyway. Weren't really dressed how we normal dressed for this kind of occasion.
After checking our ID, we went up these steep steps. Not a good idea if you're out of your mind twisted lol. Got to the hostess and they charged us $20 a piece. Price is a little but ridiculous but we paid it anyway. Once you walk around the corner, they have a coat check and first bar.
Set is a cute little lounge, definitely not as big as some of the spots Toronto has but a really cool laid back atmosphere for the grown and sexy.
So we preceded to the bar. The waitress was really nice. I wanted my favorite peach schnapps & pineapple for her to say they don't carry peach schnapps. That's when I realized they don't have a big bar selection and ordered a lemon drop shot instead (My other go to). While waiting for your drink you can't help but to dance as the DJ was playing music that takes you back. Well at least for me because I'm older lol than the most (only by age though ) Got our drink, took our shot and walked to the other side of the lounge. It was dark with purple & fuschia lighting. Definitely sets the mood. The second bar was packed. With it not being a big spot you kind of have to bump your way to the second bar to get a drink.
Music was great, the drinks they provided with what they had was good. We didn't stay long but definitely said we were coming back.
May 13th (Mother's Day weekend) our second night at Set
Tonight we are definitely dressed for the occasion! Got to set ordered a pineapple and coconut rum, danced to 90s music and had a ball. This time we stayed longer almost to closing. Didn't really like how the night ended though. They played Reggae music towards the end which was okay at first but it eventually changed the mood and people were beginning to leave. Or was it the bar closing at 2am when people were beginning to leave? Either way the club closes at 3am so I didn't understand that madness. I also didn't understand as soon as the DJ called last call for alcohol, we went to the bar and it was close. 1. Shouldn't the Dj call that at least 5/10 mins prior and 2. I still wanted to drink. That was a whole hour without a drink if you already finished. I'm use to 30mins till the bar closes, but to each it's own. We ended up leaving before the lights came on with the rest of the crowd.
Overall I really like Set. We will definitely be back sometime but I think right now we want to explore some other places.
