When it comes to edgy culinary experiences in a unique setting, Soul has been on the top of my Charlotte list for quite some time. I'll start off by saying the atmosphere is not for everyone. It's a small space where the tables are extremely close to one another it can be noisy. If you are willing to embrace the resulting conversations and meeting new people, then you also get the benefit of trying some of my favorite dishes and cocktails that the city of Charlotte has to offer.
Again, the space is small and they don't take reservations. Getting large crowds (4+) in is extremely difficult. While the no wait app has been a game changer, this place puts up ridiculous wait times so be prepared to go early. I also recommend trying one of the specialty cocktails here. Several big names in the Charlotte cocktail scene either started here or spent some time here. While I'm not sure who influenced who, I'll certainly enjoy the resulting drink menu they have to offer.
Regarding food, I've tried many dishes over the last few years and only have had a handful that didn't blow me away. I would treat this place as an experience more than a meal, and have easily spent close to 2 hours in the past ordering dishes (1) or (2) at a time and often putting my experience in the hands of our waiter/waitress as they are better versed in what is good for the night. Some highlights include the pork belly tacos, sashimi tuna tacos, and garlic truffle fries. Since the small plates can add up quick on my bill, I normally round out the night with a sushi roll as they tend to have more bang for your buck calorie to dollar wise.
