| - Like the Midwood Smokehouse location in Plaza Midwood, this one in Ballantyne serves excellent BBQ with a diverse menu. Make no mistake, though, this is NOT authentic North Carolina BBQ.
FOOD: The menu is fairly diverse. I personally am not a fan of this at BBQ restaurants, but looking around at other tables, it seems like I'm in the minority. I have tried both the pulled pork and brisket (brisket is not real BBQ, but I digress...), and both are excellent. The burned ends are also very good. There is a decent selection of side dishes offered, and unlike many other BBQ places, Midwood Smokehouse does not upcharge for some. The dessert menu is fairly small (cobbler, banana pudding, and a dessert of the day), but the offerings are all excellent.
SERVICE: Not much to say here. The server was friendly, promptly refilled our drinks, and did not ask us 100 times how the food tastes. A+ for service.
PRICE: The pricing falls in line with 99% of other BBQ places. Expect to pay around $12 for a pork combo plate and $18 for a brisket combo plate. Considering that 80% of the plates are meat, I would say the prices are fair, especially since this is what almost all BBQ places in the Southeast charge.
Midwood Smokehouse is my favorite BBQ place in Charlotte. Is it authentic NC BBQ? Far from it, but the taste is great, and I will definitely return.
