  • Food was good but service was lacking. Tonight my girlfriend and I decided we wanted to have Nepalese food for dinner. After checking all the yelp reviews we decided on Himal Chuli. We showed up at 7:10PM thinking that we would have enough time to finish dinner. The first thing that the server told us was that there was no room inside and we would have to eat outside if we wanted to eat. We said that was fine, so we got placed outside. Our first interaction with the server was really abrupt. It definitely gave us a negative vibe. We briefly thought about leaving but decided to stick it out. We were asked if we were ready, found out that they were out of the Nepalese tea, that was disappointing. I think we probably should have just left and tried somewhere different but it seemed too late. We saw the same server joking around and being nicer to other customers, so I assume that good service does happen here... just not for us apparently. We ordered the Chicken Buff and the Chicken Sikar. The food came out really quickly and we realized that this place closed at 8 and that was probably why they were trying to pump us though. It would have been nice if they had just told us that the restaurant would be closing soon, that way we probably could have come back another day and given a better review. The food was really good. I think that is the major saving grace of our dinner. The chicken was spiced very nicely and it was flavourful. It comes with sauce and vegetables. I noticed that you need to order the roti separate, which is kind of another thing disappointing. We got to the front to pay and realized that they only take cash. It's 2016 and your restaurant is on the busiest street in Madison. Get a debit machine, come with us into the future. Sad to say I probably wont be back. If I were to ever eat here again it would be takeout only. I think I will try to look around for better Nepalese options.
