| - Pros:
Shuttle to and from the airport (you must sign up)
Clean inside and outside
Free three cocktails and/or beer (you must choose from a specific list) daily, from 5-7 pm
Hot breakfast (the oatmeal is my personal fave)
Pet-friendly ($15.00/night fee)
Is located right off Exit 151 on I-10
Wi-fi is complementary and actually it is reliable (but just double check that you are logged in to the Drury Inn wifi and you didn't accidentally connect to the neighboring hotels' wifi)
We got what was called a double queen bedroom. Its size was listed as 300 sq ft, so it is smallish, but still comfy. I would have reserved a suite (like I would normally do at the other Drury Inn in Tempe--I will review that too). However, no suites were available at the time of my reservation, because it was not included in the options shown on the zenHotels.com website. Anyhoo, I found the room clean.
Cons:
The hotel may be right off the freeway, but once you are on University, there's not much you can expect by way of good restaurants, shopping centers, etc. Now, I didn't think of checking out the restaurants in the neighboring Hilton hotel and others. When we were looking for a steak restaurant, we drove about 20 minutes into Phoenix proper (we ate at the Arrogant Butcher downtown). For breakfast, we tried the Duza's cafe in the historic Coronado neighborhood, which was within minutes driving time from Drury Inn. In other words, if you wanted to go somewhere, you can do that really quickly via the I-10 and/or the Loop 202.
When we checked in on October 7th, between 6:30-7:00 pm, there was this woman behind the front desk who came across to some people (myself included), as being supremely rude and downright condescending. She had long blond hair, was slender, maybe in her early 30s. I'm not one to say negative things about other people, but this person really irked me by the way she said things (my son even noticed that she basically insulted my intelligence by explaining to me the way I needed to swipe my card. Of course I knew how to do that, duh ). By the way, I also saw her behind the front desk the following day (a Saturday), early evening, and I was within earshot of her cutting off a guest who was inquiring about something by saying, "I will be right with you" then she continued to have a discussion with another female staff member who was with her at that time. Now, maybe it is not what she said, but how she sounded and how her face and body language came across which, once again, I considered as rude and inconsiderate. Meanwhile, all other staff members we dealt with during our stay were ok.
We stayed in Room 524. We had two queen beds. The mattress was way too soft. Every time my husband or I moved to change our sleeping position, we were sure to wake the other one up by the movement. Mind you, all our stays in the Tempe branch have been quite pleasant due,in part, to the solid but comfy king bed we have had in our room. So it boggles my mind how these two queen beds we had in this particular room were really bad. I hope management reads this.
It pains me to dock two stars off this hotel but at the this time, I'm going with the Drury Inn in Tempe when I go visiting the Phoenix metro area. That one deserves my 4 rating if not a 5.
