| - I went to this hospital to have my baby-
Each area of the hospital was different in their care, service and capability:
ER- entering through the ER when you are in active labor & then laboring for 20-30 minutes in the lobby while strangers ask you questions and sick kids stare at you, is not ideal for anyone- for some reason there was no doctor available upstairs and that is why I had to wait... The only reason I got to go upstairs was because my doula promised I wouldn't push.
OB triage: Some nurses were helpful but the main woman said there was no bed, so I stood with my waters breaking & contracting in the middle of the room until my doula decided to take the empty bed that was available.
The theme of lack of privacy and attention was not appropriate for active labor.
Our tour promised a quick and easy check in for pre-registered patients, but it just didn't seem very quick and easy still.
Labor & Delivery: after the almost 2 hours of ER & OB, I got a room. L & D was a much better experience- every nurse I had was knowledgeable and caring. Erin & Lorie helped me have a great birthing experience.
Postpartum: this whirl wind part was not my favorite- there are just too many people coming in and out, my husband wasn't sure why doors were on our room. 12 people coming in before noon is so many!!
The prided 3-5pm nap time didn't exist.
So many nurses with the one for mom, one for baby, one for vitals. The nurses also contradicted each other. One nurse said use these gauze for baby's circumcision, the next nurse said absolutely do not use these. One nurse said pump before you feed baby, next nurse said pump after feeding baby. So many times the nurses seemed to state their opinions rather than what the basic information a new mom needed to hear. It's hard to separate opinion from "need to know" as a new parent. I will say, any nurse that was a charge nurse, was actually the best nurse and we had no problems with the knowledgeable and professional charge nurses.
The nurses often didn't update the date, discharge progress or even time I took my meds on the board in my room, this concerned me, because I felt I had to keep track as well in case there were any issues- not sure why there was a board if they weren't using...
Nutrition/ Cafeteria: excellent food
I wasn't super thrilled with my overall experience- and will not for sure be returning for any other services or births.
Follow up visits, mainly mandatory:
Breastfeeding Support Group: is great, strongly recommend for support, advice, and meeting other mothers.
Vitals Clinic: very nice nurses, no wait, very caring.
Information Booth: always friendly and helpful women
