I called Randor to get my enagagement ring resized. I believe I was speaking to Randy himself who said it would be an easy job. I started to ask a couple of questions because I had spoken to another jeweler who said a special platinum laser is the best choice when resizing platinum (Randor was not going to use a laser). Randy did not agree that a laser was necessary. I admitted that I was new to the whole ring scene and I wasn't sure why the other jeweler insisted a laser was best, but that there must be something to it. To this he replied in a terse tone "Well how did people resize rings before this laser technology was available?" I said surely there was a way, but was trying to understand the difference from a quality perspective. He replied that he didn't know why the other jeweler would have insisted on the laser and it was clear he was done speaking to me, so we ended the conversation.
I understand a resizing would not have been a lucrative transaction for him (approx. $80-$100), but his short sightedness is unfortunate. Not only do we intend on adding to the engagaement ring I have, we will also need wedding bands. If I had had a good experience at Randor with the sizing, I absolutely would have considered working with Randor in the near future. Not so.
