I had to visit the ER on Father's Day unfortunately as I am new in town and do not currently have an internist. Not to get too graphic but I had been ill for 5 days before going to the ER with either food poisoning or the worst case of stomach flu known to man. As i checked in, Janet called me back to take vitals and was extremely nice! She said I would be called back soon and I was checked in, vitals taken and in a room within 20 minutes. Within 10 minutes, my nurse, Janet, came in to draw blood and insert in IV for fluids. She was very calming and honestly, I did not feel the needle go in and as of today I barely have a mark as to where the needle was placed! She also said "You'll be with me here for about 2 hours". It was almost exactly 2 hours from arriving to being discharged. Dr. McCracken came in and told me he would be able to tell a lot from the blood work. Within an hour, Dr. McCracken came back in to tell me at that point he suspected, based on my bloodwork, that it was a nasty stomach virus. He prescribed 2 drugs for me and told me to follow up this week with an internist. He was personable, informative and very nice. Nurse Terry was also super nice and very sweet. I was pretty out of it but they all made me feel very comfortable and were willing to help in any way possible. The thing you have to understand about the ER is you might think the stomach flu is an emergency but someone coming in with a heart attack or broken leg has to take precedence over you. I totally understood that and still was treated very well and timely. I would encourage anyone to go to Scottsdale Healthcare Shea with any type of medical emergency. I would definitely go again if I am ever in need of emergency care.
