| - For all of you out there thinking of joining LA Fitness, beware. Just went to cancel my membership due to some health issues that don' allow me to go to the gym for awhile. Since I prepaid my membership in full (for the past 10 years by the way!!), I am not allowed to cancel the remainder of the contract. However, if I were on a monthly payment plan, I could cancel. Just got some runaround from the guy at the LA Fitness at 7th St and Greenway. Actually told me LA Fitness follows "state guidelines" about cancellations. Even gave me some paperwork. Just checked out the "official" paperwork he gave me and it is the internal policy paperwork from LA Fitness. No state policy. What BS. Oh, I can provide proof of a permanent disability to cancel...WITH A DR'S NOTE.
Beware LA Fitness if you are looking for a gym. In fact, beware all memberships anywhere. Have had it with all these companies who make it virtually impossible to remain a sane customer: notably, Cox and Verizon.
A further example of LA Fitness making it impossible for members to cancel. Get this: If you want to rescind the agreement initially, you have 3 business days. You can cancel by registered mail OR turn in the paperwork at the LA Fitness office --- IN CALIFORNIA. YOU CANNOT RESCIND AT A LOCAL OFFICE. Additionally, when I went to the PO to send the registered mail, the PO guy told me they do not do registered mail for anything other than things of value like gold, jewelry, etc. So why the request for registered mail?
BEWARE LA FITNESS!!
