| - Bonfyre's decor was oddly lack luster when pitted against the intrigue poised by the blackened glass front and fiery red signage. Party rooms were tucked away behind wood paneled hallways. Tables were pushed close to the walls to permit as much seating as possible, making it claustrophobic and impossible to move around easily.
Service was prompt, clumsy, but overall good. Our waitress was friendly and all smiles, but seemed distracted - she knocked a glass of water over twice.
Our party menu included: two apps - (spinach artichoke dip/calamari), a soup/salad, main course - (chicken/shrimp/walleye/roast beef), and mini desserts.
The calamari was awesome, no sauce needed, just a dash of lemon. They were lightly breaded and fresh. Instead of ringlets, it was presented in strips about three inches long. The dip did not look appetizing. Salads were standard fare.
I had the BBQ Chicken dressed in a bourbon sauce, "Bonfyre mash", and vegetables. The chicken was cooked perfectly. It was tender, juicy, and melted in your mouth. The sauce was sweet, to the point that any other flavors were masked. The potatoes were garlicky, and the veggies were lightly sauteed (aka crunchy) zucchini.
Dessert was confusing. Bonfyre calls them "assorted mini's" and describes them as "mini cream cheese parfait style desserts". Six pairs of texturally confusing cups containing different flavors were presented. These were a combination of parfait, cheesecake, and crem brulee with a gram cracker crust. Flavor wise, these were great (if you got past the texture and sweetness). There was nothing complex or mature about these desserts. Rather, it was like a kid in a candy store just mixing and matching same priced candies in a single bag.
Overall, the meal was nice. The company was nice. Would I make it a point to go back? Not really. After-all, the best thing I ate that night (flavor-wise) was an appetizer...
