Having eaten and numerous of the best Japanese in NY and London I would say that for the hype and reviews here Blowfish falls short. For having the image of being Toronto's best, upscale level sushi haunt I would say it is nothing more than average when it comes to food but with a bit of a chic ambiance. The sashimi was pretty decent (it had some sesame and jalapeño) and had its own unique touch but the sushi rolls were very average. The spicy tuna with rock shrimp was ok; the jalapeño hamachi was bland. Both the rolls were a bit mushy. A restaurant of this nature should make their sushi like art and every piece of it should stand out. The final dish was black cod, which perhaps was enjoyed most. No complaints there. Overall, the food was decent enough that we had a good meal but for the food I have had better at some of the cheaper restaurants I have tried elsewhere in the city. I love spending at upscale restaurants with amazing food but this isn't mind blowing at all and I won't plan on making a dedicated effort to go back!
