| - UPDATE: Although a Banfield rep has commented on this & suggested they are very apologetic we have yet to hear from them now 3 days later.
JUST HORRIBLE.
Over priced & dishonest.
Banfield Hospital (Lake Mead Pkwy) was the first vet that we took our new puppy to, in effort to determine what might be wrong with him. We took him in (knowing he was sick), but anticipating that we would enroll him on the puppy plan. Needless to say, that will not happen.
I know SO MUCH MORE than I did just a few days ago. If your pup has Parvo go to the bottom to see where I recommend to go.
Experience:
Leo was taken into Banfield on Fri. and diagnosed with Parvo. From the onset, we were given doom & gloom prognosis. I left there heartbroken. He was there all day with the understanding that there was a price range he would fall within, but likely the price would be much less. I also was lead to believe that he would need to be there that day, possible somewhere to take care of him overnight and then maybe the next day. That was not the case. I have since learned that the treatment is between 3-4 days; so instead of having the correct information (and pricing options) to determine our best & most cost effective course of action, I was priced out daily pricing, that was known to them that he would need to be there for multiple days (of which they acknowledged to at a later point).
I requested the list of options from Dr. Burks for overnight facilities so I could call for pricing, location, etc. but she said she would have that all for me when I picked him up that evening. I picked him up and was given a paper with options, but one highlighted and told to take him there. Entrusting this vet, I did just that. Before leaving, we checked out, paid a hefty price tag and then transported Leo with his meds to the overnight facility. Because it was late and I had kids with me, I didn't call the other facilities but just took him to where it was suggested. We were given a flat price for overnight care, including: monitoring, medicine administration, etc.
We went to Las Vegas Animal Emergency Hospital (see my review on that facility) where it was not the easy "drop off" I was told... it was late, reminder I had two kids (under 2) and was emotionally exhausted. I was there for nearly two hours and the flat fee that we were given somehow got to be 5x the amount quoted. WHAT??? I was told that I brought the wrong medication (I'm not the vet, I only brought what I was given), that he was on the wrong medication (again, I'm not the vet) and that the Dr. from Banfield would bring over the other one needed (Dr. Burks) - which I thought was odd... but hold on to that little nugget of info.
So... after much back and forth, the Las Vegas Animal Hospital decided to honor the price and provide the same level of care for the price we were originally given.
Fast forward a few hours... I picked up Leo, given the same gloom & doom story. I was also told that the Dr. from Banfield dropped off the other med that he needed. (Above and beyond so I thought...) We took Leo home because between picking him up and dropping him off we found a more feasible treatment option.
After putting all of the pieces together and being educated about Parvo and the treatment, not just given the worst case scenario I reflected on this and realized that Banfield (or the Dr. at Banfield) and Las Vegas Animal Hospital seemed to be working together, seemingly to extract as much money as they possible could! Get this - I was able to confirm that the same Dr. that was treating Leo and Banfield was also associated with LV Animal Hospital, which was not disclosed. And, she never dropped off that medicine that he was in dire need of, confirmed by Banfield (but lied to by LV Animal Hospital).
This is just all too much. Unfair and emotionally draining and wrong, just wrong.
Price breakdown:
$840 - one day at Banfield
$150 - one night at LV Animal Hospital
$300-$500/day thereafter at Banfield
$150/night at LV Animal Hospital
4-day treatment (estimate only): $2,340
**Had we known up front it was truly going to be 3-4 days needed we would have went a completely different route (with our previous vet) but it seemed overkill based on what we were being told at Banfield**
Pricing at East Side Animal Hospital:
$600 - All in (day & night) TREATING THE SAME CONDITION
*And we did the full treatment over because it was acknowledged his treatment was sub par prior to arriving at East Side Animal Hospital.
I can honestly say this was my most horrible service experience, period - regardless of the industry. We have contacted Banfield Corporate Office and I will update with their feedback and/or proposed resolution. I am truly sick to my stomach thinking that we were completely taken advantage of because we didn't have the knowledge about the disease or treatment options to make the best decision. Good news - Leo will make it, that is the only good that has come of this so far.
