  • Canyon Ranch does great marketing, and perhaps that is part of what made my experience there such a let down. While our treatments themselves were A- to B+ quality, everything else was lackluster from the facility to the service. Here's a breakdown of our experience: -We booked appointments a month in advance, but 10 days before our appointment date, the spa left me a voicemail saying they had to cancel one of the appointments. They said that a treatment room that was "down", something that sounds a bit absurd given the size of the facility. They have many treatment rooms. When I called back and expressed that I was upset, they left me on hold forever, but eventually told me they were able to accommodate us. -Upon arrival at the spa, we were met at the front desk by an angsty young male who barely manged a fake smile as he immediately asked for our credit cards. He said that we must pay the full charge for our scheduled services upon arrival, prior to receiving any service. We found this to be an unusual and an off-putting greeting, especially as I had already given the spa a credit card number when I first made the reservation. -After charging us $325 each, the angsty front desk boy directed us to a second front desk, where a group of ladies were deep in conversation. They looked at us like we were interrupting their conversation, but gave us lockers keys and flip flops. Rather than asking if we had been there before or wanted a tour, the locker attendant instead said, "You don't want a tour, do you?" When we said that we did in fact want a tour, she gave us a rushed version in which she failed to tell us important information about where to meet our therapists. -The facility amenities themselves were a huge let down after reading the spa's website. They really hype everything up online and make it sound fabulous, so the reality of what they have to offer felt disappointing. For example, they describe a "Salt Grotto" room they feature as follows: "soothing sea air washes over heated benches and intimate seating niches overlooking a bubbling fountain". In reality, it is just a room with warm stone benches that you can sit on by the waiting area. There wasn't any actual "sea air". Similarly, they describe a "Wave Room" they feature as a "multi-sensory experience simulating the look and feel of breaking waves under a domed canopy". In reality, it is a room with uncomfortable stone loungers that you can lay on to watch blue lights move on the ceiling. -The waiting area was in a state of disarray. Although the room itself was pretty in design, it was unclean with used cups and old apple cores sitting on the tables. No one was cleaning up the room as guests came and went. -No one showed up to meet us in the waiting area when our appointment time arrived. We brought this to an attendant's attention, and she said we were supposed to have switched to a different waiting room, and that someone should have told us that. We wish that they had. -The treatments themselves were okay which brought my rating up from a 2 to a 3. We both had Euphoria treatments which were 100 minutes for $325 and described as follows: "Indulge every sense in a luxurious ritual. You'll begin with a luscious, aromatic scalp massage and warm botanical body masque. Then your troubles wash away as you sink into an exquisitely prepared bath. A light, soothing massage using warm, herb-infused oil is the final, perfect touch." My treatment itself was great, save two major issues: the therapist talked a lot when I want to relax in quiet, telling me details about her personal life that were unprofessional; and the therapist seemed to leave me soaking in the tub just a little too long so that she could short change the length of time she was supposed to massage me at the end. Overall, I expect more for $325, or $407 with tip. While the facility itself has the potential to be nice, the service was very lacking and a lot of the features advertised on their website were fluff. I think that someone who has different expectations than I do might like this spot, but if you are used to five star service, you may be let down. Next time, I will stick with the Bellagio or Cosmopolitan spas.
