| - I will start off by saying that the actual show was 5 stars easily, hands down. My friend and I went to see Rebel without a Cosmos and we were both extremely impressed and entertained.
The one star given represents the quality of the service and the way we were treated by our server. My friend had ordered a gin and tonic and I ordered a bottle of wine, as we thought that would be 4 glasses throughout the show, although the server initially told us that if we needed him he would be around constantly.
Our drinks were ordered within minutes of the show starting, and our server's section was small and all of the servers were standing right behind us talking on the top balcony throughout the show. It took an extremely long time to get our drinks, and they weren't even brought by our server. 2 glasses and the bottle of wine were put down, there was no courtesy tasting or pour.
I proceeded to pour my own first glass of wine, and after bringing the glass up to my face I immediately smelt a sour, dirty dishwasher smell. My friend and I smelt the unused glass and it too had the same rancid smell. We pushed the bottle of wine and glasses to one side so that it would highlight to the server something was wrong and cue him to come over. I kept looking behind to get his attention, but he was busy watching the show and laughing. After several minutes to almost the intermission, no quality check was ever done of his customers to make sure everything was ok or that no one needed anything.
At this point I was getting irritated, and asked another server walking by to help us. I gave him the spare glass to smell and he agreed it was disgusting. He offered to bring 2 more glasses, which he did... And they both had the same disgusting smell, you guys obviously need to clean your glass washer or the rag you were using to wipe the wine glasses with!
So again there's 3 empty glasses and one untouched glass of wine pushed to the side of us, and our server continues to enjoy the show right behind us until the intermission. At this time he comes up and asks how everything is, and I proceed to tell him about the glasses. He acts irritated and says he heard about the concern, and starts making excuses about how when 300 glasses come in at one time after a show there are bound to be mistakes and things will fall through the cracks. Well that's now 4 glasses in a row and your machine is obviously disgusting, so there's a lot of things falling through the cracks.
He says that he will go personally hand wash a glass to make sure it is ok, almost mocking me for their mistake. He comes back near the end of intermission, I still haven't been able to drink anything and there is a glass of wine from the bottle going to waste because it is in an unsanitary glass.
The glass that comes finally smells clean, because it doesn't smell like anything at last! And when I tell him it's fine and he rolls his eyes and thanks me as if I am an interference. I ask him what will happen to the glass of wine I can't drink because it is in a dirty glass. He says that there is nothing the matter with the wine and we will be charged for it and walks away. Unbelievable.
My friend now wasn't interested in wine because it had taken so long and the smell had put her off, so I was stuck with a bottle of wine for the remaining half an hour, which would be illegal to expect someone to reasonably drink that much.
4 dirty glasses and a terrible attitude, and still charged for a full bottle even though by health and safety standards one of the glasses was unsanitary. I wish I hadn't left a tip at all. If I did this myself as a server I would be ashamed of myself, it is the poorest level of customer service I have seen in a very, very long time.
Go for the show, only order a beer or simple rail mixed drink or non alcoholic beverages.
