| - When we have a group, or at least a picky one (other than me) in the group, we come to Hough's ("Huff's", yaknow). Recently moving to Greenfield, it is literally the only actual place to eat in our little hilltop community. And the crowd is Greenfield--empty nesters, graduate students, young couples--never too crowded unless it's trivia night. And Tuesday trivia night is serious.
I am admittedly not a beer drinker, but I'm serious on some cider. Hough's absolutely has one of the largest bottled cider lists I've seen in the city. McKenzie's cherry is one I haven't been typically able to order in a bar elsewhere, and it is my favorite(!!!!). Obviously the beer lists are even more impressive. The only odd thing from most places I like is the lack of cocktails. That's just not what they do here; it's a neighborhood bar. There was a tiny laminated drink list at one point but I was told it was rubbish, and they didn't have anything that was listed in the drinks. Yikes.
If you have time for food (sometimes it can be a little slow), definitely give it a chance. Tots! A side of tots is my jam. It's inexpensive, casual, great for weekend lunch. It's a lowkey sports bar without the obnoxiousness. The only downside (other than people bringing their children here), would be the hours. 4 until midnight for a bar/restaurant here is tough. Weekend hours are normal, but scuttling out at 11:30 the rest of the week is a bit annoying.
If you make it to Greenfield for some reason (took the wrong exit off 376?), Hough's is a super casual neighborhood spot worth the stop.
