| - We had an AC unit that wasn't efficiently cooling one side of our house. We called a competitor because of their rating on Yelp and an appointment was set up with a "senior technician" for Friday between 3-5pm. At 5pm, no one showed-no call about running behind from anyone at the company. We called the person in charge and he told us that we should call the senior technician. Hmmmm-(not my job to track him down). The "senior technician" relayed that he "can be" to our home in 20 minutes or so. The technician showed up and determined that the unit was leaking refrigerant because of a hole in one of the fittings. He said he couldn't repair the hole in the fitting, but could add refrigerant to get to the proper level. We asked what the cost would be to repair the fitting. Initially, he said, "it was no big deal," but then said it would take approximately 4 hours. When we asked what the cost would be for the repair, he stated it would be $1389.00. I instructed him to add the requisite refrigerant and that we would think about the repair.
It struck me as odd that he gave us such a specific price for something that could vary on price for time/labor/parts, etc. Something didn't seem right.
I called Croffoot the next day ( a Saturday, no less) and after speaking with Susie and sending her pictures of the pipe and fitting, she and Kirk determined the price would be $300-$500 depending on the nature of the issue and whether Kirk had to add additional refrigerant. Kirk came out on the following Tuesday, located a small pinhole in the fitting where the refrigerant was leaking, determined that it was probably from faulty installation, and repaired the fitting in about 1 hour. Total cost was $345!!!!
Needless to say, Croffoot will be getting all of my AC/heating work because it is obvious that they are competent, honest, and efficient!
