The swimsuit dryers in the locker rooms have been broken for months. The staff tell me that they don't know when they will be repaired, because the cost of repair is $2500. I can't imagine it costing more than $250 to replace both of them with new units. What is so special about these things? I looked them up and they cost around $2k each.
They've raised their rates recently, and they should be able to afford basic maintenance on equipment for what I'm paying. Still there are not many options for swimming pools that are open year round.
Over the years that I've been coming here to exercise, I've frequently been inconvenienced by the lifeguards commandeering open lap lanes in order to hold a private lesson. Apparently the Y makes extra money by charging people twice, once for membership and access to the pool, and again for a private lesson so that you can actually have a lane to swim in. The lifeguards also often allow children to play in the lap lanes when adults are supposed to be swimming in them. The pool only has four lanes, though it's wide enough that they could have had 6 or 8 lanes, but instead they designed the wheelchair access ramp end of the pool to be half of the width of the pool, which is far more than necessary.
If I could find another place to swim that was nearby, I would switch.
