  • It's surprising that this bar wasn't heavily advertised. Unlike Lindt that pours an immense amount of effort, money, and free chocolate into its marketing, Haagen-Dazs was the exact opposite. I only heard of this pop-up shop through an article that was floating around, a literature that I haven't seen more than twice, meaning that it hasn't been widely circulated if my Facebook friends aren't constantly clicking "Share" every hour. Nonetheless, I came here with a pre-existing notion that I was going to have some very glamours, expensive, and gourmet ice cream. All were true. My friends and I gathered here on Canada Day. To our surprise, it wasn't packed, albeit it still being a little busy. This again, I attribute to the lack of marketing, unfortunately. This was to our benefit since we don't like feeling like sardines in a can. We enjoyed the chic colour scheme of white, green, brown, and gold in matte, glitter, and gloss, all of which gave the room a sense that it was larger and very "bougie" - in a good way, of course. Furthermore, the staff had many board games on hand, top-trending dance music was being played, and there was enough space at the center for any patrons to boogey to the beats, not that I think anyone would in an ice cream joint. Then again, this bar focuses more on its alcoholic Haagen-Dazs inspired concoctions after 5pm, so I may be wrong. To make it easier to visualize, before 5pm, going here is like going to a nicely decorated and clean bubble tea shop with board games available for use anytime - but sub in the bubble tea with customizable Haagen-Dazs bars, Haagen-Dazs espressos, alcohol-flavoured Haagen-Dazs scoops and etc. It's a neat experience and a nice escape from dessert-focused restaurants like Cafe Demetres, bars/lounges that don't cater to those with a more innocent flair, the McDonaldization of bubble tea joints, and the ice cream vendor at the tourist attraction selling pre-packaged Haagen-Dazs bars under the blazing sun. The only caveat, however, is that unlike with bubble tea, which you could sip on for an hour or so while you play your board games, Haagen-Dazs products melt (like they should, as they're ice cream products). What this means is that you eat your dessert quickly while playing the games or chatting with friends. As such, it gives you little incentive to stay for too long, unless you're feeling up for buying a few more bars/drinks. Personally, I don't think this bar would last long if it became a permanent feature in Toronto. As a limited time pop-up bar, I think it's a great experience. I would recommend any Haagen-Dazs fan to give it a try. It's a notch up from your everyday bar/tub, at least. Plus, you'll be able to occupy some time playing games and taking selfies with the decor while you enjoy your frozen desserts! Great for dates and a "chill" time with buddies!
