| - This place is a huge part of Cleveland, and fun/unique place to visit on the weekend, but as a local I avoid shopping here when I can, for several reasons.
My biggest complaint comes from the fruit and vegetable vendors: I'm not saying all of them do this because I'm sure some are honest, but I've been had vendors "pull one over on me" and sell me low quality produce on multiple occasions. Sometimes, they will even give you a sample of a really good piece of fruit, and then when you buy they give you the second choice produce that looks the same but is significantly lower quality in flavor. My issue is I don't have the patience to seek out the honest vendors vs the scammers... I'd rather go to a quality grocery where I know the produce is good.
My second complaint it that there is a major lack of local produce. It just doesn't add up to me... there are so many benefits to buying/selling local, with one of the most appealing to me being fresher produce. Why is this not happening?
My this complaint is hours - if you are a working person (8:00-5:00) making it to the market is very difficult. There is always Saturday, but many of the vendors raise prices for their busy day.
And finally - I really wish there were tables/chairs to enjoy prepared foods that you can buy at the market. Many people drive in from the suburbs and want to grab lunch there, so why not cater to this demand?
I know that a lot of people share these thoughts with me, but since it is a big generator for small business in CLE and since it attracts many visitors, these concerns are swept under the rug; we don't want to complain and scare people away. However, after unknowingly buying some strange, flavorless, watery breed of avocado (advertised as a ripe hass avocado) and then preparing the worlds worst guacamole for a party, I've had enough!
