| - I had higher expectations for this place, especially since it was voted one of the best facials in Toronto by BlogTO and it was Leslie F. (the former darling spa) 's alma mater. I thought everyone would be as awesome as her. But perhaps it was just bad luck.
I really wanted to like the place. The appointment booking online was super easy and they had a great deal on Microdermabrasion with facial ($99 instead of $145).
After filling out the extensive form, she led me into the first room. Simple, clean, but not immune to the sounds outside - but also drowned out with the speaker playing music and rainwater.
We had a short discussion about my skin as we started. During thhe entire treatment, I would have expected a bit more description about what was going on my face - like "now this a masque specially targetted for x,y,z (you skin concerns)" but there was nothing.
I had also paid extra $35 for an eye treatment and I had to question when it was done. Maybe its effective, but found out later all it was, was an eye masque and some serum.
The website says my facial was supposed to be 60 mins with the 30 min eye treatment - even when I booked it, they said I would be done in 1.5 hrs. Somehow I came in a little before 1:30 and was finished at 2:25pm. Raises some eyebrows.
After cleansing and exfoliating, she did the microdermabrasion. Yes I've had it before, but did mention it was a long time ago , she could have briefed me - but I could have also asked.
Then I got the extractions. I thought it was weird that she steamed my facing during the extractions. I thought the point was to steam, open the pores and then extractions can come out. And now that I am home I realize that all of the extractions gave MORE scarring! Wtf?! I am tempted to change my rating now.
After was the massage. My favourite part, usually, but it was so short, probably ten mins. And barely touched my shoulders. She put a lot of pressure on the front of my chest - I wondered, doesnt she know this is really uncomfortable ?
I was also really disappointed by how she stepped out of the room during the masque. I feel like the measure of a good facial place is that they stay in the room with you the entire time. This just means you have something better to do. Maybe this isnt standard practice here, but I dont know. But my expectation for a facial at this price, esp. since there are other places in Toronto that practice this way, is that during the masque, the person stays in the room, and massages your shoulders hands feet head whatever.
There are ways to manage your treatment regimen so this works without over tiring yourself.
What's worse was when she came back, I was startled from my snooze as she stomped in and out, and started removing towels and what not in a rough way. It's supposed to be a peaceful relaxing time. I wonder if she cared.
I really wanted to like the place, they also take Wayspa gift certs. Its also not easy to get to unless you live/work in the area and consider yourself lucky if you find parking.
Maybe their other services are good, but I question the facial. I might come back again one day and give them another chance, but wouldnt be my first choice. It certainly wasnt the worst facial I've ever had.

update: I got a message from Amrit, the owner, and she let me know that this is not how they function as a spa, and that the person who treated me was new. She's offered for me to go try another treatment again but this time with her. Although I still strongly believe that with proper training and screening, this should not even happen, I will give them another chance when I have some time to book.
