| - Sentience. 3-4-18. I expected greatness - and received brilliant.
Located in the newly developing downtown Las Vegas, this was my first visit to the spare, intimate showroom with about 50 seats. Incoming staff was welcoming and helpful. Two rows of seating around the room made for great views throughout the theater.
I was intrigued by the ads for Sentience, likening it to Black Mirror, and promptly signed up for a ticket.
I don't want to include spoilers but with this compelling and attractive cast, I lost sense of all space and time and was utterly drawn into the production. A military man was the subject of drug experiments. His brain and soul begin to shut down. His medical researcher wife is his most fervent ally - but what is that drug she kept injecting into him? And her growing baby bump may be her husband's salvation - but at what cost?
The play ran 1.5 hours. At the end, I was too stunned to clap but the thundering applause from guests filled the room, shook the walls and rafters, and seemed to go on forever.
Some productions you think about for a few minutes before moving on.
Sentience is a presentation I will think about for a very long time.
If you like theater that makes you think, question and ponder, SEE SENTIENCE.
Bravo, and well done.
