| - Okay, a little perspective here. I have had shabu shabu in several different cities around the world and each experience had its own distinction. Yojie falls into my trendy category. It's new, it's modern and from the other reviews I have read, it mildly rubs the traditionalists the wrong way. Good. I don't want to have the same thing I have everywhere else.
I like the bar setup. I like the individual pots. I don't have to worry that my DH can't have seafood because I have an allergy. Furthermore, I don't have to squabble with him over the last piece of tofu in the pot. "Was that yours?" "No, it's mine." I take food grudges very seriously.
I do have to admit that I was not familiar with all of the vegetables provided. I did wish there was more tofu and carrots. The meat (I had beef) was sliced perfectly, however it could have been in slightly shorter pieces. The Sumo portion is 10 oz. and id regarded as XL, it was what I considered a regular portion. The goma (sesame) sauce was delicious. The only real complaint I had were technical difficulties. I didn't have a plate to put my cooked meat on and there was no skimmer to clear the water. In spite of that, the restaurant is clean tending toward spartan.
Now, I will forever love my regular shabu shabu restaurant in Green Valley, but I see myself coming to Yojie quite often. One of the main reasons being that is much closer to my area of town (only a few miles closer but far more convenient). The service was prompt and pleasant, the servers as far as I could see were delightfully polite and attentive.
