If you have a 1-4 point traffic ticket, save yourself the lawyer retainer fee and just pay the convenience fee for level 1 traffic school through the courts website. It gets rid of the traffic school requirement and takes it off your driving record. I'm writing this post in hopes that others don't make the same mistake in hiring these lawyers that we did.
My wife received a ticket for rear ending someone. To keep the ticket off her record, we decided to hire this lawyer to get the ticket reduced to a parking ticket. We paid the lawyer a $100 retainer fee.
They did a good job of keeping us up to date on the status in court. For the most part they seemed to be on top of it.
They were able to get the ticket removed from her record without traffic school but we had to pay an additional $200 fee to the courts in addition to the initial fine.
We called the lawyer's office to find out why we had to pay the additional fee. The assistant was nice but didn't really have the answer. She transferred us to the lawyer.
The lawyer was pretty rude but I guess that's to be expected with lawyers. Didn't let me speak. Spoke pretty condescendingly and basically told us that was the only way the judge would do it. I ended up getting off the phone with the lawyer and did some research on my own online.
I found out we could have accomplished the exact same thing as the lawyer did by just going to the courts website and enrolling in Level 2 Traffic School with the convenience fee.
