  • I bought a 2014 Kia Rio from Sands Kia in Surprise, I was mislead to believe that the experience would be a good one. We went in with the intent of staying within 250.00 maybe 300.00 car payment. Nicolas was very nice, professional and accommodating. However, after my boyfriend and I test drove the car and sat down to go over the numbers, they took both of our incomes and credit scores thinking that together we could get the best loan deal. After going through 6 different credit unions and banks, nobody would approve us. Finally they used my credit but both of our incomes. The manager sat down and wrote the numbers down and had convinced us that the Kia Rio would only cost $10 more a month because of the gas mileage, than the Toyota RAV4 that we were trading in. We decided OK great, I guess it is worth the 460.00 monthly payment, so we left in our new car. A week later when we went to go fill up the tank, we found out that the m.p.g's was not much better than when we had the RAV4.... we were still spending the same in gas, and still driving the same as we were in the RAV.... the trick is to keep your r.p.m's down and coast when driving, that's how you conserve gas. When we called and talked to the manager, he told us that the motor needs to be broken in and it should change. When we asked what happens if it doesn't change, he told us to change our driving habits.... Are you serious???? What kind of a rude ignorant question is that to ask somebody who has been driving for well over 10 years? This was not OK, we were not impressed with their lack of compassion, so we called another manager that is higher up and he told us to go to a credit union and try to refinance. We decided, OK that's a good idea, so we went to credit union west where the knowledgeable, straight forward honest lender woman told us that there is no way that I should have been approved for this lien. This was upsetting to me because even though I know that dealerships are in it for the money, I had no idea they were in it that much for the money. This experience was upsetting. Later that day the lending company called to verify my address to send me all the supplies to take care of this car that I could not afford. That is when my boyfriend got on the phone and explained the whole situation to this woman. We found out during that phone call that the dealership had lied to the bank and told them that my boyfriends income and my income were the same when they are not. I understand they wanted to make the sale, or maybe they really wanted to put me in a car with a great warranty... I am not really sure but they didn't need to lie, and they didn't need to set me up for failure. The woman from the bank said she would call the following Monday or Tuesday. When Thursday had rolled around and I had not heard from either the bank or the dealership, I decided to call the bank only to find out that the dealership should have called me, so I decided to wait and see.... this was at 11am, by 3pm I had still not heard from the dealership and when I tried to call the phone rang and rang and rang. My boyfriend finally got through, and they asked when I could bring the car back. So we brought the car back and drove away in the Toyota. This whole experience is upsetting because I feel like these people took advantage of me, i know its their job to make a sale but the way they did it was not OK. I feel like some ageism was involved, i believe they saw a young couple wanting to buy a car and the fed on it. We had spent 240.00 to get the windows tinted a week after purchase, with the intent of keeping this car. I am disappointed but I am happy to have my RAV back, its too bad they couldn't fill up the gas tank and at least reimburse us for the tinting. I believe it is all about the money with these people and not the satisfaction of the customer. I work with people on a daily basis, and I am grateful that I do not have lie to get my job done. I have said it before and I will say it again.... DON'T LIE TO PEOPLE! This experience was a terrible, unethical, immoral one that I will never forget.
