  • I've always dabbled in cigars, as most guys with a vague interest do. You know, you go on vacation buy a couple, pay an outrageous sum, come home and forget about them. It's certainly not a habit I plan on taking up full time, but if I'm going yo have a cigar, it better be fresh, and after my visit last weekend, it better be from Franks. As most have mentioned, FCs is hidden back from King st W near Portland. As I walked up the cedar panelled stairwell I couldn't help but compare the entrance to something similar to a speakeasy. You basically gotta know someone who knows about this place to find it. Walking in the shop is unconventional, looking more like a warehouse on a second floor than a cigar manufacturer that caters to some of the biggest celebrities past and present. That didn't change my experience either way, but when you see a long hallway lined with celeb pictures, you know you're in higher right place. It was close to closing time so it was only staffed by a single roller and a staffer. The guy who helped us was a real guys guy, no BS, knows his customer the minute we walked in and knew how to help us. He explained that they are mostly a custom order shop, but for walk-ins you were at the mercy of whatever they have extra of that day. Not a hard pill to swallow let me tell you that. For custom orders you can choose from many of there standard and special order sizes and various levels of tobacco (from a mid level up to a super premium). My friend and I picked up a couple of $11.50 cigars and being first timers the guy let us have'em for $10 each. Something he didn't haves to do, but I really appreciated it. I can only imagine what other service FC offers to clients spending mega bucks if they take even little guys like us seriously. Big thanks for the awesome experience and the amazing cigars, I've never smoked something that burned so evenly and so smooth for so long. I'll be back for sure..
