I used to go to Scorpio's years ago when I was 18-22. I lived in a small town with a handful of gays & we would flock to closest/only gay bar near us (an hour drive). We always had fun because we were young, drunk (etc), & HAD to dance. Plus we just didn't see drag queens or gay people at all back home.
I remember going with some friends (a straight couple) and the girl wanted to give a tip to the drag queen...it was all fun until the drag queen ushered her out on the dance floor in front of a crowded room backed by multiple tv screens showing the queen and my friend...the queen did a fun little dance then as the finale, she "pantsed" my friend. Bare ass & puss. Her boyfriend was upset to say the least & even tho I told him that's just how they are he still went to complain to the bartender...who then told the queens...who then stalked us through the over crowded venue while shouting threats at us. I ushered my dumb straight friends out to the car & 3 of the queens followed us screaming at us.
It was hilarious and scary.
This was probably around 2010.
I've been a few times recently & it hasn't gotten better. Sticky floors, drunk children, & violence seem to be the theme. I'm too old for that sh*t. :)
It is still a night club where ppl get shitty drunk so grossness and wrecklessness is bound to happen. It is what it is.
I definitely prefer the much more chill environment of The Peace Pipe...a new gay bar in Charlotte that caters to a wider range of LGBT folks with a stage for more than just the "house queens."
Also I'm pretty sure no one has been murdered there.
