I booked the Days Inn because it turned out to be a big party weekend in Montreal and I couldn't get rooms in any of the hotels I've used previously. The website is completely up front about what it is - a basic hotel with a good location. I was actually pleasantly surprised to see the size of my room (king-sized standard?) and was find doing without frills like swimming pools, spas, etc., because I was traveling with a 10 year old.
The reason I will not return to this hotel is that they seem to be grossly understaffed and that means that you encounter minor irritations and inconveniences during your stay. You line up to check in because there is only one person at the desk. You wait for service at the restaurant because there is only one person providing service to that and the adjacent bar. You wait your entire stay for someone to come in and deal with the extinguished light bulbs and running toilet, because... maybe they don't even have a maintenance person. That would explain the little signs of disrepair here and there.
I will say I'm very impressed with the cleaning staff because the hotel and our room was definitely clean/cleaned, despite the fact I never once saw a member of the housekeeping staff.
The staff are all quite pleasant and helpful, which seems miraculous given that they always seem to be doing 100 things at once.
It got a bit noisy at night, and why not - whose going to come and do anything about it? - but I blame that on guests, not the hotel.
I'm not inclined to return.
