  • I lost such a good friend here. My whole family did. Boomer collapsed Monday night despite being fine the day and even the hour before. My father laid down on the floor with her, trying to get her to stand or drink water. She wouldn't budge, and she barely took a few laps of the water. We knew we had to get her somewhere and soon. The VE+CC North location was the closest and most decently rated emergency veterinary clinic. My father hauled our 95 lb German Shepherd into his arms and charged for the car. She laid in my grandmother's lap all the way there in the back seat. I just kept looking back and talking to her. My dad ran her inside, struggling to haul her due to the wind. They pulled out a gurney and strapped her down in mere seconds. We filled out the paperwork, sat in the very clean waiting room, had a cup of complimentary coffee...and within five minutes the good Doctor told us that we had two options: Give Boomer two months of pain and medication before she passes, or put her down tonight with her family. Apparently she had a sort of cancer that is common in the breed, and strikes very quickly. We never knew before that minute. My father's heart broke. So did mine. The staff here was very kind. Very professional and incredibly knowledgable. They took such good care of her. She was so scared, but not of them. They gave us over twenty minutes to be with her alone, staying with her and holding her. She couldn't get up, she'd lost all feeling and use of her back legs. I could tell she knew, and it hurt us all that much more. The Doctor came in and let us stay for the procedure. We held her close until the end. My father closed her eyes and waited until her heart actually stopped. Within an hour my childhood friend and my Dad's baby was gone. Boomer (Our beautiful Boomerang) died on Tuesday, at 12:06am. A few days later we received a very kind and generous card from VE+CC North. Signed by all of the staff involved with diagnosing and taking care of Boomer in her brief hour there. I cried for days (still am). I want to thank each and everyone of them. They were understanding in our time or grief. They took the time to consider how we were feeling. They made this process quick and painless for Boomer as well as my family. Thank you for helping us, and thank you for making sure Boomer had a safe and painless journey to the other side (wherever that is). I cannot ask for more.
