  • I've been going to Gentle Dental on Flamingo for close to 10 years, maybe a little longer. In the past, I would never have given this office anything more than 3 stars. I have come to accept that ridiculously long waits in the waiting room, ridiculously long waits in the chair, rotating Dr.'s and hygienists, and a "get em' in - get em' out" attitude is just the norm for this multi-location dentistry. The reason I've never gone elsewhere was a matter of two things. For one, it's right in between where I work, and where I live. So it's always been convenient to go there either on my way into or going home from work. Two; As most people, I dread the dental chair, but I have a sincere fear of sharp things in my mouth, (including things like regular ol' toothpicks) so it's easy for me to become a basket case at a dentist office! But, even with the crappy service, they have always been, as their name states, gentle. That in itself was enough to keep me going there. So today, I show up at 8:45am for my 9:00am appointment. I'm already planning my 3 star or lower Yelp* review in my head. When I sign in, I notice the girl at the desk is new. She was on the phone, but she actually made a point to pull the headset down from her ear, and said "Good Morning" to me. She said it with sincerity and a very nice smile. Honestly, this caught me off guard because in the past, it's not been all that friendly. 9:00 on the money, I hear my name called. This has happened only one time in the past, and it was because I had the very first appointment. Now, let me be clear, I rarely blame the office itself for not seeing me on time. Because most of the time, it is people before me that have no manners or respect for other people, and show up late expecting to be seen immediately because their appointment time has come and gone. (I understand there are some exceptions out there, if you are one of them, I apologize, please disregard my rant). When I put my name down on the check-in sheet, the lady who had just signed in ahead of me, was one of these such people. Written in the "Time of Appointment" was penned, 8:30. In the "Time of Arrival", oh, well that was left blank. Like the people behind the counter can't tell that you're late lady, you were the only person in the place. Anyway, I digress.... At 9:00, my name is called. Sweet!! I get up and start walking towards the back and the hygienist who called my name looks kinda familiar. I think to myself that's kind of odd as it seems that this place has a new staff every time I come here. She sits me in a chair, and within a minute or two, has the blue napkin around my neck, has informed me I need x-rays, and already has the first bite wing in my mouth. I was thinking to myself, "Self, you are in the wrong dentist office." She quickly had me laying back in the chair, and was underway into the cleaning. None of this was rushed. She was doing a very complete job, was being very nice, and was talking to me. There is little I hate more, than having people directly behind me and not having any idea of what they are doing, but she talked to me just enough, to keep me at ease. Halfway thru the cleaning, I recognized her demeanor in cleaning my teeth (I know, that sounds really weird, but when somebody is nice to my teeth the way she was last time, I remember!), when I realized that this was the same hygienist who cleaned my teeth last time! I guess it's just the little things that make me happy. Her name is Hoku, and the next time you schedule here, ask for her!!! So the rest of the cleaning went smooth as glass. When the Dr. came to do the examination, I was ecstatic to find that not only did I have Hoku still as my hygienist, but that Dr. Figueroa was again my Dentist!! She is so very nice and is very thorough when she explains things. On my way out, the girl at the desk was again on the phone. I didn't make it 3 steps past the desk before she wished me a good day. I turned around just to make sure she was talking to me, and not the phone. Sure enough, she had pulled the phone away from here ear again, and was talking to me. So, in closing this novel, this was the single best visit I've ever had at Gentle Dental - Flamingo. There were a bunch of small changes that I noticed in the office; new decor, the girls at the desk were smiling and pleasant, it appeared there was a "uniform" that the girls scheduling were wearing, it just felt, "different" in there. Much more professional. I don't know if this visit was just a good day for the office, or if there have been some much needed changes made, but for today, I give Gentle Dental-Flamingo 5 stars!
