  • I went into my 1 year old's room last night and he was having a hard time breathing. Laying over the bars of the crib and not very with it. When I picked him up he was hitting me and acting like he had no idea who I was. His breathing was still a bit labored at this point. When I set him down he was not crawling right and he could not make eye contact with me at all. I tried snapping and it was like he couldn't figure out where the noise was coming from. I took him to the emergency room at Honor Health Shea. Once I got in we waited for the Doctor. The only person I saw that night other then the discharging nurse was the PA named Megan Hoover. I told her my story about what was going on. She didn't really seem to be listening that well. I had to repeat myself a few times due to her cutting me off or interrupting. Once we finally got to the end of the story she went to listen to my son's lungs. She listened to his chest with her stethoscope and he fussed a little bit so she stopped. I told her I'd hold him and she said that was okay, that she was done. She did look in his ears. What happened from there was absolutely nothing. She told me he probably had RSV. When I asked about the test for that she replied with, "It's uncomfortable for them and all I'd tell you to do for treatment is suction his nose." She also told me that, "His lungs sound great and at this point he doesn't need a chest xray." She only listened to his chest for about a half a second until he fussed a bit. So I was very confused as to how she listened to his lungs. She never even listened in the back. Nothing. She then said I could go home. When the discharge nurse came in I asked her if there was anyone who could give me a second opinion (especially seeing as how I never even saw a Doctor, just the PA Megan). She told me there was no one there to give me a second opinion. So I asked her, "What do I do if he is unable to breath right again? Give him a breathing treatment?" And he response was, "You need to get a breathing treatment cleared by your pediatrician." I asked her what I was to do for him then. She said to make an appointment with my pediatrician at some point for him. So I left feeling scared to death that my son would have another episode of not being able to breath that night. I didn't feel like anything was done to help him (no tests were done, nothing). I saw no MD that night yet on my paperwork it says under "TREATED BY" The attending physician is Jonas, MD Michael. If he wasn't there to give me a second opinion why is he on my form for treating my child? I never saw him. I'm absolutely appalled that she never even listened to his back and did no testing. Just sent me home with a child who had an episode of not being able to breath with no idea what to do if he had another episode.
