| - 3 Americans in Toronto looking for a spot to watch the Monday Night Football game, we were referred to this place and headed there since it was near the hotel. With TVs at the booths, on the walls and even on the floors (?!?!) you won't miss the game you're trying to watch here, and that's a major plus. I considered giving it 3 stars just for that. However, the food I thought was really overpriced. Most things on the menu, typical sports bar fare were about twice what you would pay at most sports bars in the US. Not to mention they throw in that extra liquor tax. However, that's probably more of a Toronto thing than a problem with Hoops. I mean, it is downtown Toronto, so it's not going to be cheap.
We had a couple pitchers of Canadian beer: Cremer's? (think that was it) and Steamwhistle, and both were excellent. There was a hilarious moment when, after finishing the first pitcher, we asked for a recommendation on another beer to try next and the waitress said "I like MGD. It's pretty good". MGD, as in Miller Genuine Draft? HAHAHA...LOL. We couldn't believe she recommended that over some of the quality beers they had on tap there! Maybe because she knew we were Americans or something, but that's like telling someone to go eat at McDonald's for the best hamburger in town. LMAO. She was nice despite the fact she doesn't know anything about beer.
The food was decent: good not great. We didn't dislike anything and ate it all, but nothing was particularly tasty. Bill for 3 of us came to over $100, and we only had two pitchers of beer and split some wings, poppers and nachos. The bathroom was kind of dirty. I would not go back to this place unless I was in Toronto and specifically wanted to watch a sporting event on TV that I knew they wouldn't have at most places in the area.
