  • BEWARE! Uber just STOLE $154 from me. Scam warning! Uber charged me fraudulently for "making a mess" I had nothing to do with, and when I told them, they just ignored me and stopped replying. On April 5th I was in Vegas to see Ricky Martin's dressed rehearsal show with some friends. We went out for dinner after the show, and I took an uber ride back to the hotel after. It was a $7 trip around the block- was in the Uber for 5 min and 30 seconds. It was a weird vibe in the car, the driver was acting a little strange, and his car was really dirty. He didn't say anything to me the whole trip. I didn't really think about it, and got out. When I back to LA the day after, I discovered that my credit card had been charged again from Uber- $154 dollars, so I was sure my card had been skimmed in Vegas. I had not heard anything from Uber, and the latest trip on my uber account was the $7 ride. So I called my credit card company, and had close that card, since I thought it had been skimmed. Then 5 days later, I get an email from Uber saying they have updated my fare, and I found out $154 was charged that to another credit card I had on file through pay pal. They said that there was an incident that required a cleaning fee in the trip around the block in Vegas. There was no incident that required cleaning on my trip. His car was dirty and he was completely silent and acting a bit weird, so I was just on my phone waiting to get out. I was by myself in the car, I was just done with my 30 days to healthy living cleanse, and had only had 2 glasses of wine that night, so I was sober when I got in the car. I reach out to Uber to ask them if this is a joke. They come back to me and say the driver reported that I made a mess in his car that required cleaning. Then they send me the "proof". It's pictures of what looks like white paint spilled on the seat and on the door and floor. I was wearing a black cocktail dress and only had a small purse with just my phone and credit card. There is NO WAY I could have made that mess. I don't eat dairy, so if he were to say it was milkshake, there is no way that could have been me either. My friends saw me right before I got in the car, so I have witnesses confirming that I didn't bring anything into the car. His car was dirty already, and I'm sure Vegas is probably an easy place to accuse people who are taking a late night ride of making a mess in your car. A lot of people are drunk and don't have control of what's going on, but this driver chose the wrong chick to mess with. I am shocked and I tell uber this, explaining the whole situation. But they reply saying: "We understand that these messes are not caused intentionally by riders, however, that does not remove the responsibility for the cleaning fee from the rider." What responsibility? They are blaming me for something I didn't do, they have no proof I had anything to do with it, and I tell them there is NO WAY I could have spilled white paint or anything white in his car! But they don't listen to their customer, they just went ahead and STOLE MY MONEY, and they are not giving it back. WOW! What kind of customer service is that? They just stopped replying to me on the email thread. I try to give them a second chance to make it right, so I reach out on FB messenger, and they just tell me the case is resolved! What? No, its not. Then they stop replying there as well. Ignoring customer who's a victim of a false, fraululent claim. I start looking this up, and it looks like its and increasingly popular scam by uber drivers, to pretend someone made a mess, stage a foto, and charge a cleaning fee- the cleaning fee goes straight to the driver. I found many cases like this lately. So let's say this driver spilled paint in his car when he was using it personally, and then wanted to get some extra money to clean it up, and just took a picture of it and said a rider made it. Without any proof. And uber just charges the rider for it! And he gets the money. Or what if it was the rider before me who did it, and I got accused, because he didn't see it before I walked out. That might be the case too. The only thing I know is I had nothing to do with it, and it is definitely not my responsibility. But uber just decided I had was the one to pay for it. It's NOT OKAY. I encourage you all to SHARE THIS AND DELETE YOUR UBER APPS. If this can happen to me, it can happen to you. I DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE. Im only riding Lyft now. Lyft is a much better and safer company, they test their drivers before they let them start, and they treat both their customers and drivers so much better! Im not surprised Uber has gotten the bad reputation it has.
