| - I completely forgot to write a review for this place. I will admit from the outset that I was expecting to be impressed. My friend had recommended Bouchon from her experience at the Bev Hills location and my Darling surprised me with a friday reservation at this location. Perhaps I was expecting too much...I am from a city where French bistro food abounds. Bistro fare is meant to be "meat and potatoes" french fare where the technique and the quality of the ingredients shine at fairly reasonable prices. When the prices are more "haute cuisine" than bistro, I expect to be dazzled. Suffice it to say, the food did not live up to the hype nor the gold-plated pricing.
The evening started out with much promise as we began with a salmon tartare dish and onion soup. The soup would have been perfect if it had been slightly less salted. Otherwise, it was very flavorful. The salmon tartare dish was incredible. We had never seen it presented in such a way (in circular flat layers, the salmon, capers, and cream were laid out on the plate...I don't think I'm doing it justice in my explanation) and it was really brilliant. For the main course, I ordered the skate fish special and my Darling had steak frites. The skate was a little on the oily side. Basically, it was good but not great. My Darling's steak frites was also good but not great. I do have to say that the portions were quite large, almost overwhelmingly so. For dessert, I had the mousse au chocolat noir. Absolute heaven!
While the food definitely sparkled at times, overall, it did nothing more than maintain a consistent level of competency. Unfortunately, this is not what should be expected out of a restaurant that purports to be in the pantheon of elite restaurants.
There is, of course, parking in the Venetian (whether valet or self-parking). To those who have never been to Vegas, the parking is free (both valet and self-park). This place accepts all cards.
