| - I love Ethiopian food -- I used to eat it virtually every other week when I lived in the Bay Area. That said, I was thrilled to learn that Pittsburgh has an Ethiopian restaurant. After eating there, though, I wish that there were other options, because this one is terrible. I've given it two chances, but I'm done with it now.
Both times, there was only one waitress who had to deal with way too many tables, and the food took way too long to come out. Our entrees took over 40 minutes to come out.
The sambusas are small, way too oily, and flavorless, and the waitress kept mixing up the lentil and meat ones. I asked for lentil ones, but got meat ones, twice. This was because another table had ordered meat ones, and they kept getting our lentil ones. I don't blame the waitress -- the kitchen needs to get their sambusa system sorted out! Also, worst sambusas I've ever had, definitely not worth the cost.
The prices don't make sense. If you've ever been to an Ethiopian restaurant, you know that whatever you order should come with injera. We got a vegetarian combo, but the waitress said that you had to order the injera extra. The injera was dry and had a weird aftertaste. We also ordered the spiced cottage cheese, which was $4.50 for a tiny bowl. In the Bay Area, this would have also been free.
The homemade vegetable soup was basically just a small bowl of onion soup, and it also lacked flavor.
My husband and I both left feeling very dissatisfied.
I hope that someone else opens a better Ethiopian restaurant. This place needs some competition, and I need a new place to get my Ethiopian fix.
