| - I'm going to keep this as short as possible because it's a lonnnggg story. For three months my son was only gaining 2-3 oz a week and I was nursing him every hour, 24 hrs. I was seeing two different doctors at Cactus Children's Clinic (I originally had my son's two day appt scheduled with Agave and we were 10 min late and they cancelled our appt, despite telling us that being late was no big as I had given birth two days prior and was having a hard time walking. So had that not happened, this whole saga wouldn't have even happened. But anyway, on track here.) I asked these doctors in separate visits if my son had a tongue tie and they said no. Those "aren't a thing". I struggled. Cried. Felt so much pain and worry. I was watching my baby "fail to thrive" despite nursing nonstop. Finally I saw an independent lactation consultant, Michelle Hotya at The Milk Spot, who identified a tongue tie in two minutes. She sent me to Agave to have it revised, and the next day my son gained 2oz. He continued to 8oz a week gains immediately and after dropping from the 99th weight percentile at birth to the 2nd by 3 months, he started climbing back up. I have Agave to thank for saving my nursing relationship with my baby, and Cactus to blame for 3 months of despair and growth problems. Their attitude; just give him formula. So, if you aren't interested in breastfeeding, I think Cactus is fine. If you do want to breastfeed, Agave is a better choice. Agave also accepts alternate vaccine schedules. Thank you Dr. A for a life-saving revision. Side note: I was horrified at the idea of a tongue tie revision and completely skeptical that it would make any difference with my son, but it did. And it took about two minutes. I recommend it to anyone breastfeeding (or failing to breastfeed) whose baby is having issues gaining weight.
