| - The "Homeowner Occupied Community" that allows renters!!! Has to be the most useless HOA in existence. There is no maintenance staff to clean up, pull weeds, recommend repairs (but there is a person with this title that collects a paycheck for $22.50/hr). My street is like driving on a dirt road and I have a "lawn" growing out back (no seed or sprinklers necessary... just lack of maintenance) If you make a complaint in the meetings, they laugh at you and call you a whiner. Then, they will put out a letter to all the homeowners to belittle the "whiner". We had a guy in the community (whom is now on the board, thankfully...but they always outvote him) that complained to the county about unsafe lighting. The HOA was forced to correct the code violation. The HOA pouted and ripped out all the security lighting 2 years ago with no replacement or repair, and it's been dark and dangerous around here ever since. Then they put out a letter belittling the man for making what they summed up as unnecessary trouble and calling everyone that complains about anything "the cabal". It is commonplace for them to try to intimidate the other homeowners. They even cut down your trees without replacement if you "make trouble". But the HOA president (Maryann "andy" Beam) has a garden of eden behind her unit, and I won't mention her decaying wall out front (homeowner installed, not original). The board does not hold themselves to the same standard as the other homeowners. They authorized themselves to have extra trees and bushes and ceiling fans on their front porch but the rest of the community gets neglected. There is also a drug house (or maybe a brothel) that attracts disgusting vagrants regularly at all hours of the day and night. They jump the wall by my place because it's only 5 feet high. They pee on the wall and smoke drugs right outside my back patio. The HOA REFUSES to do anything about them and writes off the problem as "we can't do anything about it, they're invited by the homeowner". There is always trash and shopping carts around that unit, all they have to do is start fining them and build up the violations to a priority lien but they are scared of them (or maybe they're customers, that makes more sense). The old president cared about the community and took complaints seriously and, at least, investigated them. One homeowner got a threat of a fine because some Mexicans were partying at the pool and left chicken bones everywhere and they blamed it on him because he's Mexican (everyone looks alike when you're a bigot). He wasn't even here at the time; he lives in California and only stays here when he visits Las Vegas. They didn't check ID of the offenders or take photographs or even review the surveillance footage (they always claim the cameras are broken).
To sum it up: If you want to be belittled, bullied and victimized for $157 a month, come join the Duck Creek Condominium community today!
