| - My little brother had just turned 21, and as a Marine he didn't often get to enjoy delicious food so I wanted to treat him to a great steakhouse. After reading lots of Yelp reviews, I had decided on Sullivan's Steakhouse.
To reduce the wait, I originally made a reservation earlier in the week for 730, but when I tried to change it online it said that my reservation wasn't found. When I called, they acted like I wanted a new reservation, so to move on I just created a new one for 8 pm.
We had a couple beers at Sycamore earlier in the night, so we walked over to Sullivan's and got there right at 8 pm. We were really hungry, but were told that they were running behind and it should only be about 15/20 minutes, we weren't pleased, but it was a nice night so we waited outside. At about 8:25, I went inside to check in again and they said that they were still waiting on tables.... then at 8:50, we were finally seated. I understand that sometimes the tables are running behind, but I definitely did not make a reservation to be seated almost an hour later. It would be great if they would have texted us that they were running late so that we could have stayed at Sycamore.
To counter this, the service from our waiter was spectacular. We got a free appetizer for our wait (no I didn't ask) and when we ordered the crab cakes the waiter gave us advice that with out 4 people, it might make more sense to get another appetizer. We definitely appreciated that advice!
We ordered 2 bottles of wine along with dinner, and ordered steaks along with some sides served tableside. I got the filet mignon, and it was perfectly cooked, buttery and melt in your mouth. I also got the Cajun butter, which is butter that has Cajun spices that you can put on your steak (which then melts.) I liked how they didn't automatically add it so you were able to control how much butter is on your steak. We got the mushrooms, asparagus, king crab gnocchi and garlic horseradish mashed potatoes. My favorite was definitely the king crab gnocchi- spicy and creamy, with chunks of jalapeƱos. You probably only need about a side per person maximum, as they are large in conjunction with the steak.
We were pretty full, but the waiter approached us and said that we could get any desert, on the house to celebrate my brother's birthday. I know that he was really excited and they even added a Happy Birthday message! He got the Peanut Butter Pie, and it was rich, fluffy, with thinly sliced chocolate pieces on top and a chocolate black bottom.
We spent about $400 for 4 people, including 2 bottles of wine. We did get the appetizer and a desert for free, but overall I think it is expensive but reasonably priced based on the quality of the food and the service. I was disappointed with how they handled the reservation, but everything other than that was incredible.
