| - Michelangelo's is great!
They have a fantastic selection of loose leaf teas and organic, fair trade coffee, but the house-made chai is what keeps me coming back! I also love that their "creamer" (kept in a cooler next to the sugars, honey, etc) section includes not only skim, half and half, and 2% milk, but also SOY milk. It's always such a hassle to have to ask the person behind the counter for a "splash" of soy, especially when it's busy (and ESPECIALLY when there's a $0.60 charge included for that small amount), but they leave all customers satisfied by keeping everyone's needs in mind at the condiments bar.
The staff here is some of the friendliest on state street--seriously. I don't know the names of the employees, but I seem to always see the same two people during the week: the girl with a dark, pixie-cut hair and the guy with light brown hair that's pulled back in a ponytail. I've seen them both handle a serious influx of customers--always with big smiles and the most accommodating of attitudes. Seriously, these guys are the best!
The atmosphere is cozy yet upbeat. There are several seating areas with tables and chairs, as well as a section of comfy sofas and lounge chairs. The music is typically mild, ranging from cantina-inspired beats to soft indie to John Mayer-style tunes, which is perfect for relaxing or cranking out a paper.
It's nice that there is such a wide variety of independent coffee shops on state street, but Michelangelo's just has that extra little "something" that sets it above the rest. Try them out, you won't be disappointed!
